Disc Location

Go to solution

I am trying g to use the My BT app to best locate a disc to extend wi-fi range BUT the only location that is good enough is in the same room as the hub - gives me no advantage whatsoever!

Just move it about using trial and error until you get the best location. Start at the room you want the signal and check on your device to see how good the signal is the move it towards the direction of the hub until your device works the best signal.

Sadly you have to lower your expectations of the discs. But it is often the case of finding a plug/ location and seeing if it makes any difference.

Before you even start, you might benefit from moving the router if that's possible.  The ideal location is usually as central to either the house or the room wall you can make it.  In a single story property, you'll want it certainly above waiste height, and if you've more than one floor then on top of a bookcase - with as much clear space as you can amke/afford surrounding the router.  Then try the Disc in different in neighbouring rooms, or even on the next floor up on an opposing wall - WiFi can often penetrate floors and ceilings better than walls.

*Major issue on a new build estate near me: Timber-framed houses, but all the plasterboard is foil-lined, so no one can get WiFi in rooms on the same floor as the router!

I only learn by making mistakes and owning up to them - boy do I learn a lot!

I agree with Crimliar.

You don’t give any details about the building layout, but if the discs/router can be positioned to “see” each other through intervening doorways it helps.  (Internal doors tend to be a bit more transparent than walls).
