Does Using a BT Hub 6 Plugged Into My Smart Hub 2 As An Access Point Degrade Speeds?

Hi,

I have a BT Smart Hub 2. I have a BT Hub 6 plugged into this as an access point with the 2.4ghz bandwidth turned off and configured correctly in the Hub settings [Disabled firewall,change gateway ip etc].

Does doing this in anyway affect the signal/quality of the original BT Smart Hub 2?

Suffering from poor signal with this and seeking an answer if this can cause any issues.

Had a BT Engineer over who claimed this was causing the issue and stated I was using up all the 'channels'?

Are both on the same channel?

A connecting device will connect to whichever signal it sees as the strongest.  What it can’t do is sort out the mess if two things are talking on the same channel.  That could also be the case if your neighbours are using the same channels.

For 2.4 GHz use 1, 6 or 11.  Ignore the channels in between as they will cause adjacent channel interference.  For example, put one hub on 6 and the other on 11.

@sunny808

Why are you doing this?

If it's for more ethernet ports just get a simple 5 port switch.

600Mb/s on 2.4GHz is about as good as it gets.  (That will be 300 send + 300 receive however, as, unlike wires, Wi-Fi can't send and receive simultaneously).  Poor performances is still likely to be a clash with the neighbours Wi-Fi.
