“Plugging directly into the homehub rather than the Netgear switch has the same result”… so it’s not the switch then.
Without knowing more about which websites are the problem, the most likely culprit is DNS. You can’t change that on the Smart Hub but there is nothing to stop you changing to 8.8.8.8, (Google’s public DNS), on the PC itself.
Just to clarify, you have got the SH2 plugged directly into to either the phone line or the ONT.
Yes, the SH2 is plugged directly into the Openreach socket. I'm starting to think that the problem is the motherboard adapter which I did try to reset as a possible solution to the problem. Bypassing the switch and plugging a limited number of devices into the SH2 shows that they do work, it is just the PC that won't fully connect. Thank you for taking the time to reply
At times I cannot even get a response to a ping to 8.8.8.8 but, as I have commented to another reply , I'm starting to think that the problem is the motherboard adapter which I did try to reset as a possible solution to the problem. Bypassing the switch and plugging a limited number of devices into the SH2 shows that they do work, it is just the PC that won't fully connect. Thank you for taking the time to reply
Do you have two DHCP servers running on your network?
For Example, the TP-Link RE500X Wi-Fi extender (to name but 1) has it's own DHCP server which by default uses a pool of addresses in the 192.168.0.xxx subnet, if you have made any changes to this such that it matches the SH2 subnet (192.168.1.xxx) and both servers are enabled then you could have IP clashes.
As long as the SH2 DHCP server is enabled then you don't need the one on the extender and it can safely be disabled.
I admit to doing nothing much more than plugging it in and letting it do its stuff. The bthomehub 'my devices' shows DHCP next to the IP address and so I have to think that the SH2 is acting as the DHCP server? Now I've to learn how to log into the range extender!
