FTTP Wifi issue.

Hi there , I recently moved in to a "new build" property. The property supports FTTP (Fibre to the premises).

Now I have a issue because the main control box inside my property is where my BT home hub router is connected to which is inside a cupboard by my front door.

My living room is where we use mainly everything and it is a good 30-40 meters away so I am achieving only around a quarter of my intended speeds via wifi as you can imagine. Unfortunately my partner does want me to run ethernet cables to a modem and to be honest it is a lot of drilling holes and messing around. 

I want to know if I am doing this right because it seems strange that a new build property is designed this way. There are several phone line sockets around my place that we don't use since we don't use a landline. But i was wondering if there was some way of getting my internet through one of these sockets? I am very bad when it comes to understanding networking.

You cannot use phone sockets.

The simplest option would be to put the home hub in the living room, and connect it to the optical modem using powerline adapters.

Each end plugs into a mains socket, and uses the mains wiring to carry the signal.

I have looked at the powerlines adapters , But unfortunately where the optical modem is on a separate wiring circuit to the living room so I was told this will probably not work.

They will work provided both wiring circuits go back to the same mains consumer unit, which is the case in most houses.

If it’s 30-40 metres from the cupboard by the door that contains the ONT and router , to the living room ( that’s not far off half the length of a football pitch ) then you would think the developer would have provided some sort of Ethernet distribution to allow the ONT and router to be sited in different areas.

Are you sure the sockets you refer to are phone sockets and not Ethernet sockets?

Is there a multi socked panel in the cupboard?
