Georestricting upload from FTTP

I've just switched over from a FTTC connection with 50mb download and circa 5mb upload to a FTTP connection with 900mb download and min 100mb upload.

I stream my TV outside of the UK to a home abroad which takes required about 3mb of upload spead which was fine on the FTTC connection (with the odd disconnection periodically).

I thought things would improve on thhe FTTP connection with the vastly fater upload speed but I was wrong. A speedtest shows that iwhilst m getting the 900+ download and 100+ upload (sometimes in the region of 300 - 500mb upload) but the streaming connection is worse. It seems particaully bad between the hours of 3pm and 9pm even though the speedtest is still showing the 900 down 100mb up (3ms ping).

If I stream the TV outside of the UK via a UK VPN, everything is perfect. The only thing I can think of is that the location abroad is georestricted on the FTTP connection, but its not a 'dodgy' country and the connection to the same location on the FTTC connection was great.

Has anyone experieinced this before?

I'm considering changing the router to something like an Asus to see if its the Hub, but doubtful as the connection through the VPN would be equally worse.

I have BT coming out this week to look at the connection but I dont expect them to find anything as the speedtest shows the speeds they guarantee are being given.

Re: Georestricting upload from FTTP

Perhaps its content restriction being applied to the TV stream, to prevent illegal distribution of content?

You may actually be breaching the T&Cs for BT TV.

.     How you can use the service

(a) The service is just for you and your household for personal use (meaning that it should not be used for any trade, business or profession). You're responsible for how the service is used.

(b) You can only watch the content provided as part of the service, including any recordings, at your home.

Re: Georestricting upload from FTTP

Thanks for the response but it's not BT TV that I'm streaming. I have a HDHonerun box that streams my Freeview over the air content (and yes I do have a TV licence) and I know that this is a grey area. My main point is that it was fine for the past 10 years in the FTTC connection but really slow on the FTTP.

I also have a small NAS server on the FTTP connection that I use for remote desktop connections broker which also slows down at the same time.

Re: Georestricting upload from FTTP

Sorry, I assumed it was a BT TV box, however restrictions may still apply for Freeview content, I would imagine that streaming TV content is easily identified, and content providers would take a dim view of such activity.

The issue with the NAS would confirm that FTTP connectivity is restricted outside of the UK IP range.

Re: Georestricting upload from FTTP

Thanks, but doesn't account for the slow streams to the other services from the NAS server which are unique protocols, all of which are fine over the UK VPN. I can only decide that there is some kind of throttling during certain periods to this particular specific country
