I've found another instruction in the manual to completely reset the printer.
Function Button combination Instruction
Complete product reset
A complete product reset will clear all your personal
data, settings, and network information from the
printer.
With the cartridge access door open, press and hold the
Power button for at least five seconds.
"With the cartridge access door open, press and hold the
Power button for at least five seconds."
Tried it and the white light did not go even go off. The ink cartridges didn't move. Te only way I can turn it off is to unplug it.
Given that the reset instructions don't work & you're seeing a "different" printer, are you 100% certain that your printer is the model you think it is?
Do you have any powerline adapters on your network? I'm wondering if you're somehow picking up a neighbours printer? Although that doesn't explain the reset not working, unless of course Mr HP has buggered it completely.
It says on the front it is Envy 6032e. The instruction booklet and the box says it is too. T
But you made me think. The printer listed when I try the ethernet connection is my husband's on the floor above. He gets his ink from HP InstaInk. That must be why when I try to register it says the printer is linked to another account. But a different name and email address.
I can't delete it from the SmartHub. I can't do anything.
Ok, silly question. Why do you need 2 printers?
Good question. We always have had two because of work demands. So when my last one broke I bought this one.
But I would like to get it to work. Just tried WIFI again and it is still not finding the printer. Plugged the ethernet cable in again and my husband's printer comes up. I can hide it but mine does not come up. I also still can't switch it off with the button.
I have to go out for a bit. I'll unplug it and then I'll have to try HP again this afternoon. Nothing else I can do.
Was it powered down overnight? If not then that might help. Might also be worth turning off the other printer while attempting setup, but I'd want to see a successful factory reset first.
Just been on the phone with HP for 2 hours. No take-over of the computer. She tried everything and it can't be found with WIFI and my husband's printer comes up (unplugged) with the ethernet option. It had a factory reset as well. I downloaded Chrome as well but no joy. The problem has been "elevated".
I will try with my husband's laptop tonight.
If the printer won't respond to a factory reset then I suspect it's failed. Which would explain why it suddenly stopped working. I'd give some consideration to returning it to the retailer for refund/replacement.
Just an aside, but if the other printer can do colour when required & that isn't too often, I'd recommend a mono laser printer instead. Toner cartridges should last ages with occasional printing & no issues with ink drying out.
