HUMAX DTR-T2000 playing silly beggar AGAIN!

Hi all,

I purchased a 2nd hand Humax DTR-T2000 back in 12/23, to be able to record programmes, and it worked great.
After ~3 months it started randomly turning off and on, continuously scrolled through the channels (up and down), the volume kept decreasing (when 'Stereo' was the audio choice), a 'Currently in Surround Sound Mode' message flashed on and off continually at the top of the screen (in 'Surround Sound' audio) and also when the blue 'YouView' button was pressed the 'selection highlight' randomly moved around without input.
I tried everything suggested on the interweb and thought I had sorted it when I replaced all the leads i.e. aerial, HDMI, as it again worked as it should (after much frustration and many tears!)... YAY!!!👍🎉 (I was sure I had placed a post on this forum about it but can't find it 🤔😶)
That is until tonight 😤😠
After watching the news I went to switch to another channel and the box wouldn't respond to the remote so I switched it off using the remote and it still didn't respond and then via the mains and once I did that it started the same things as before  ⬆️ 😠😠😠
Before anyone recommends it ... I did previously purchase a HDMI filter thingy (sorry I forget what it is actually called 🙃) and it didn't help. Oh, and the remote is currently sans batteries and in a drawer and it is still happening 🙄

NOTHING has changed at all, I just turned it on, watched the news and 😬....  so does anyone have any suggestions/advice/experience as to what is causing this and how to fix it (again) 🤔????

I am wondering if there had been a software update today that has messed it up?? I don't know where to look to see if this the latest one and when it updated.
The Software info is :-
Last Checked For Updates - 02/08/24 (although it doesn't state IF it was updated or WHEN it was updated)
Component Software - 3.8.248 (870e82)
Manufacturer Software - 32.155.10
Platform Configuration - 4895 (b8dd82e1)
ISP Configuration - 7102

Please don't suggest I purchase something newer as I really, really do not have any spare funds at all to do so, and when this box works it works well.
Fortunately, I have a DTV connected to it so I have used an aerial splitter and can watch FV TV without all the shenanigans and am only using the box to record programmes ( 🤞 they do) but I would like to get back to using it for both.
Currently sat here watching TV and the Humax box is on - off - on - off - on - off..... All I need to do is turn the lights off and I have my own disco 😂

Thank you kindly for any and all help you can give it is very much appreciated! x x x

Re: HUMAX DTR-T2000 playing silly beggar AGAIN!

Is it possibly a remote control problem?
Perhaps sticking down buttons.
Try disassembling the remote (details on YouTube), cleaning the back of the buttons and circuit board with isopropyl alcohol or meths or something similar, reassemble and fingers crossed that it fixes the problem.
Good luck.

All things Humax go to the Hummy TV website. I'm probably not allowed to put the like here but Google is your friend.

I've no idea what the "Hummy TV website" is, but the Humax Forum has proved very helpful - search "My Humax Forum". On the front page scroll down to "Forums" and the 2000T Forum is about half way further down.

Well, it's a Humax forum strangely enough! Hummy.TV etc and then 'Forum'.

You can post a link, it's just e-commerce sites that are verboten.

Re: HUMAX DTR-T2000 playing silly beggar AGAIN!

@decembersangel

If the YouView remote is indeed in a drawer with the batteries removed, then your T2000 box must be what’s playing up.

This is a pure Humax box, with no BT/EE support; though if it is working properly, it should be as suitable for BT/EE as any of the boxes they put their name on.

Touch the On/Standby button for just over 8 seconds, and it should soft reset itself. This is slightly better than power cycling it.

If this doesn’t work, then try the more drastic action at :-

https://support.youview.com/youview-box/box-and-remote/using-maintenance-mode/

Option 2 initially, Keep Recordings, refreshes locally.

If that goes OK, do an Option 4, still Keep Recordings, but refreshes from the mother ship.

If it doesn’t, Option 5 is all that is left to you, unavoidably requiring Delete Recordings.

If still no good, your box is bricked, and a DTR-T2xxx or DTR-T4000 is recommended as a replacement.

Re: HUMAX DTR-T2000 playing silly beggar AGAIN!

@BoJo52 The remote is currently in a drawer with no batteries in it. I also removed the batteries from my TV remote 'just in case' and the DTR is still acting like it's disco lights 🙄😂

@HHGTTG  @GeoffSmith Thanks for the suggestion, and yes I have already had a look on various 'Humax' forums and there doesn't seem to be a 'this is what's causing it' answer to this problem  😤 but I will have another 👀 just in case I missed something.

@zulu17 Oh, that is another 'quirk' of my Humax DTR 🙄 It's still happening but I can live with that but not what is happening now. Oh to be back in time when this was the only problem with it 😂

@Midnight_Voice I purchased this for its recording capability (and it was cheaper than other models and with better reviews) and as a replacement for my previous DTR which died 👻
I performed a factory reset today via the maintanance mode (keeping my recordings) and it's still playing up. I didn't think to try any other options so will have a go tomorrow.
I'm not confident that it is a Software problem either due to the fact that the Software details are different since the reset and it is still playing up 😠
I also tried removing the cables one by one from the rear of the box to see if it was one of them causing the problem but NOPE!
I REALLY hope it's not bricked as I have no savings whatsoever (my feathered boy needed an operation recently and that wiped out what little £ I had) and it will take me long time to save up more to replace it.
Like I have said, it did this previously and then worked fine 🤔 and I don't know/can't remember if I did something specifically that sorted it other than replacing the HDMI and aerial cables and then TA DAH a working DTR!!
🤞I can find an answer.

Thank you all for the suggestions/advice! You are all 🌟🌟🌟🌟
