You can make up anything you like.

One of my neighbours calls theirs "It burns when IP".  True.

Are your neighbours BT Broadband customers?

If they are they could use their own BTID and log onto your BTWifi/EEWifi signal that gets transmitted from your BT hub. This would allow them to use the Internet but it would not give them access to your own private home network.

If the are not BT Broadband customers just tell them that you are sorry but you do not give out your broadband wifi password for security reason. You do not need to give any further explanations.

It is your home network security that is at risk and anything done illegally on your connection would come back to you plus they could access the devices and their files that you have connected to your BT Hub.

If you do relent make sure that you do not have any "shared" files on your network, turn off network discovery and be sure to change the wifi password after the neighbour no longer needs it.

You could also tell your neighbour that if the have a mobile phone they could set it up as a Mobile Hotspot and connect their devices through that and use their own 4/5g network.

bad idea your still libel for what they do even if they arent doing anything

give them this option as the only option dont offer to set this uplet them investigate this by themself may stop them looking into it if think its to diffcuit and they may just decide to wait untill internet is back

im still amazed they asked this to be honest

if they dont accept this take a screenshot of the old networkkname and just telll them thats anyther bt customer

my thing is they might be trustworly but i still wouldint giving them access to my wifi from another location stops anybody  thinking anything  after he fact

@shakey1981

The neighbours obviously know that the OP has broadband by virtue of the fact that they have asked if they can use it.

Changing or hiding the SSiD only makes then router SSiD unseen. It does not make the wifi signal disappear so it is a pointless exercise and so is telling the neighbours that what they saw was somebody else's signal.

The OP has now been given sufficient information in order to make an informed decision as to what he does and this thread is now going round in circles.

as far seeing the wifi connection whos bothered just show them them old network name tell this is yours

yours is down that why they cant see it if they cant see it problem solved its not like they know the password

@Gamer98  Don’t worry about being impolite, just say no. If they’re offended, that’s entirely on them and I would suggest they are neighbours you could well do without. Plus, as has already been mentioned, what happens if they use your internet for illegal activities? I think I know my next door neighbours, but the reality is, behind their own front door, I don’t know them at all, after all, it’s none of anyone else’s business.
