Hello all, hope all is well.
I scrapped my BT Hub and replaced it with the TP-Link AX1500 Whole Home Mesh Wi-Fi 6 System.
I’ve connected my Nokia ONT directly to my TP-Link to be the main router and used the BT PPPoE credentials for IPv4 and everything is working well.
Now I’ve set the IPv6 the same way however, there are additional settings. Below is a photo of the current settings.
Now everything is working well however, I am not getting any DNS addresses for the IPv6. For the IPv4 I do. Is this something I should worry about or just ignore it?
I’ve seen on other posts there are DNS for their TP-Link system. Please let me know your thoughts.
BT don't have IPv6 DNS servers, IPv4 DNS servers give both IPv4 and IPv6 addresses for sites.
You can enter other IPv6 DNS server addresses manually if you wish.
Thank you for your reply. If I wanted to enter the DNS manually what would it be?
Depends on which provider you choose.
E.g Google are 2001:4860:4860::8888 and 2001:4860:4860::8844
Cloudfare are 2606:4700:4700::1111 and 2606:4700:4700::1001
etc etc
@licquorice - Thank you for your time and for helping me out. Everything is working well, as well as, having a peace of mind about the DNS. All this time I’d thought it will automatically will assign one however, I believe you have to choose a provider?
Funny thing, I’ve found a similar post answering all my questions and queries as soon as I joined the forum whereas before, I couldn’t find anything to help me aha. But once again I appreciate your time and help.
I’d link the post but I can’t seem to find it now. For anyone else who needs help with IPv6, below is a screenshot of my settings.
As @licquorice said you can choose your DNS. From what I’ve read Cloudflare DNS and Google DNS and commonly used.
Google -
Primary: 2001:4860:4860::8888
Secondary: 2001:4860:4860::8844
Cloudfare -
Primary: 2606:4700:4700::1111
Secondary: 2606:4700:4700::1001
