Issues with HP Printer connecting to WiFi

My HP printer was previously connected to the WiFi until recently when it started having connectivity issues. I tried to reinstall it and then got a message that the printer could only connect to 2.4GHz network but I had only 5G.

I also noticed that network coverage for my devices were now limited if I distance from the router increased which was not happening previously. I suspect the 2.4GHz is no longer functional.

How can I restore this on the 5G Smart Hub 2 router?

Thank you.

Re: Issues with HP Printer connecting to WiFi

It might be worth going into the settings and making sure the 2.4GHz is still turned on, as you can turn it off.

If is “broken” BT will issue another one, however, a factory reset seems to sort a lot of issues with the Smart Hub 2 (SH2).  Just be aware that it will wipe all your settings and put it back to defaults, so you will have to enter your own settings again.   To do a factory reset use a paperclip to hold the reset button on the back in until the light on the front goes green.  Takes about 30 seconds.

Also you can download an app on your phone such as WiFi Analyser from the Playstore which will show which frequencies are in operation from your router in your house and others around you!

Of course, looking at your router's home manager via your browser will immediately tell you the state of the frequencies i.e whether turned either on or off.

Re: Issues with HP Printer connecting to WiFi

On top of what has already been said, you might need to try the different Wi-Fi compatibility modes on the router.  HP printers can sometimes do some weird things.  If I set my own HP SmartTank 550plus to the 5GHz band, it cant be seen by my Asus router, because it tries to use Wi-Fi 4 (n) standards on 5GHz!  Perversely the router is quite happy using WiFi 5 (ac) standards on the 2.4GHz band (the printer is still in "n" mode on there though!

So my Smarttank 550 has to be set explicitly to only use the 2.4GHz, or it not only won't connect, but it'll spam the router with requests if it tries to connect on 5GHz.

I only learn by making mistakes and owning up to them - boy do I learn a lot!
