Hello. I have a problem where every time I want to download a large file, any larger than 3GB or so, my internet completely cuts out on all devices (basically the internet cuts out at router level), then the internet comes back on after a couple of minutes and it’ll cut out again and repeat if the download doesn’t finish soon enough. I’ve no other problems with the internet, streaming and everything is perfect.
This is very troublesome as I need to be able to multitask and I soon have a job coming up which will require me to receive and send large files continuously back and fourth from my home, but for now I’m just downloading large games, etc.
Could the problem be with the router itself not being able to handle a continuous download at such high speeds for too long? I’m using the fastest fiber package BT has to offer at 900mb, the speeds are great as advertised, there is only this consistent problem that I need to solve.
I was thinking of buying a 3rd party router, could this possibly solve the problem if it persists?
Welcome to this user forum for BT Retail phone and broadband customers.
Are you downloading over a wireless connection, or are you using a direct Ethernet cable from the home hub to your computer?
A wireless connection can drop if there is too much wireless interference and lots of re-transmissions are taking place.
Ethernet and as I said, all devices disconnect, wireless & Ethernet.
Hi speeddash, I have the exact same issue. Did you find a resolution?
Thanks
