New Fibre 500 system will NOT allow Printer to scan docs to PC

I have a home system, 2 x Desktops, Brother printer. ALL CAT 5 Connected. Prior to Fibre 500 activation we could,

Print from either desktop to the Brother printer,

and

SCAN docs from the printer to either desktop.

Now, we can print docs, screenshots etc from either PC to the Brother but we CANNOT scan from the printer to either PC. CAT 5 connected as before, from the printer, we get a message saying eeek Firewall.

So the BT install appears to have added some rule preventing Scanning. I can see on a desktop that Brother is still allowed, but nothing specific about Scanning. Can anyone suggest a fix? I can see Port forwarding options in the Hub address, but I don't know if I can do that here.

Thanks in Advance.

McP.

I cannot possibly see how Fibre 500 can affect your home network. You don't even need any Internet connection to scan. No idea why you are getting firewall message, there is no firewall involved in your internal network.

You could try a factory reset of the printer.

Thanks but Noooooooo. The printer will tell me there is a pending update to compel me to use Branded inks only, rather than cheapos. It's an old printer.

It is a Firewall setting I cannot pin down, I can print, but not scan. I'll keep looking.

There is NO firewall within your LAN. Did you change router when you moved to FF500?

The firewall may well be Windows on the PC.  Just tell it to allow the connection if you are satisfied everything is OK.

I had a Draytek router, removed and used BT Hub along with 24 port switch ( Heating, lighting, security etc) they all work, just the oddity on the print scan option.

Go to /AdvancedSettingsScreen Firewall = Mode ON

It shows Port forwarding and  Configuration options. So I presume I need to config the Printer somehow?

No, that is not relevant to your LAN.  Port forwarding and the hub firewall have absolutely no relevance to your problem.

Re: New Fibre 500 system will NOT allow Printer to scan docs to PC

The router firewall, (irrespective of make), sits between the router and the outside world.  Internal traffic, like from the printer to the PC, does not pass through it.

There is, however, a host firewall built into Windows.  That may be intercepting the traffic at the PC.  If you are logged on as an administrator, it should just be a matter of saying OK to that traffic.

Re: New Fibre 500 system will NOT allow Printer to scan docs to PC

@RobMcP

Have you used the same IP Address allocation as with the Draytec so all your devices are assigned the same addresses?

Bear in mind that in all probability your original setup was the Draytec being 192.168.1.1 and the BT Hub is 192.168.1.254 that the default gateway would now be 192.168.1.254 and not 192.168.1.1 as before then unless that was changed within the printer it wouldn't see the PCs presumably.

What I've written here might totally wrong but not knowing how you've setup your system for the BT Hub it's food for thought.

Edit: BTW I've never used Scan to PC so don't know exactly how it works.
