Good morning everyone. Has anybody moved to a new router and seen improvement over whole home discs? Currently getting 150-250mb/s
Unless you have faulty devices, a single router is unlikely to provide better coverage than the BT mesh system. But that's a different question to speed of throughput which you quote. So what exactly do you want to achieve & why?
The first thing to say is that with WiFi, you do have to manage your expectations - manufacturers and ISPs commonly overstate the real-world capabilities of their equipment! I've not used my SH2 much as I already had a far more capable router, but the few times it has been used suggest that the SH2 is somewhat directional, but so are some third-party routers. Even though I have what I believe to be a more capable router, I still need to use a single mesh extender to get signal to a troublesome corner of the house.
So there is no single answer! You need to map out where you have Wi-Fi not-spots around the house to determine if a different router or extenders will work best. *Even just slightly re-orienting the SH2 could help!
The advantage of any mesh type network over a single router is that the WiFi signal strength is that the signal level is more evenly spread out across the property.
Even if a new router were to give to better results close to it, in other parts of the house it will reduce significantly - but you would just be moving in to the coverage area of a different disc.
If you do go for a mesh network, it is well worth spending time to place the discs in the best position. I got my 3 disc Whole Home WiFi six years ago. Initially I wasn't very impressed - until I took the time to experiment with the disc locations. Now I would be "lost" without it!
