I just moved to a new flat and it has the ONT installed right tat the entrace, quite far from the bedrooms and living room.
The living room has a socket to connect a LAN cable to the wall. Does that mean I can use that socket to install the router in the living room?
Thank you.

There will be a Lan socket somewhere else connected to the Living room socket, if that is close to the ONT then yes.
Essentially, yes.
Theoretically, the router could be up to 100m away from the ONT. A lot depends on how it is wired, though. An important point to understand here is that that cable is effectively an extension of the connection to the outside world, i.e., it is part of the WAN. It is outside of your network, which doesn’t start until the router. Consequently, that wire can only be used as a dedicated connection between the ONT and the router. It cannot connect to any switch inside your network to carry other traffic at the same time.
Great! Thank you both. 🙂
