Greetings. I'm needing a longer power cable for my router. I rang BT to ask if I'd need a BT brand cable or could just buy a generic cable. The agent wouldn't commit to saying a generic cable is ok and told me they can't recommend using any cable. Has anyone ever used a generic cable without any problems? Thanks

By power cable I take it we are talking about a longer dc extension lead to make the thin cable from the power unit longer, rather than a mains extension lead?
If the router is a Smart Hub 2, the dc power extension would have to be a 3.0 mm plug/socket. That’s rather an unusual size. Usually, they are 2.5 or 2.1 mm. While I have seen 3.0 mm plugs available, I have never been able to locate the sockets or an extension lead. A mains extension lead may be a simpler answer.
If it is a different model router, you can test which size the plug is with metric drill bits. If a 3.0 doesn’t fit, try a 2.5 mm. If that doesn’t fit, it will be a 2.1 mm etc.
I’ve not looked recently, so perhaps a search on Amazon for a 3.0 mm dc extension lead would be useful.
