Re: Replacement IP address still listed on Blacklist

Hi I have two pcs on my BT Smart hub, one which works perfectly, and the other which gets assigned blacklisted IP addresses every time I sign on with it. I have tried resetting the router and this sometimes works and other times does not. It seems to be the range of IP addresses that is being blocked. It seems very odd, but I have seen this mentioned in several forum when I google this problem. . Can you help me?

Your PCs will both have the same public IP address, it is the hub which has the IP address and then NATs it to the private address of the PCs.

Thanks. When I look at the IP addresses of the 2 PCs the both have different IP addresses beginning with 192. and I understand that these are the IP addresses that are being blocked- is that correct? If so, what can I do to get an IP address that is not being blocked?

No, they are not the addresses that are being blocked, they are the private addresses on your lan that are common to every BT customer. The IP address that is being blocked is your public IP address which you can reveal by entering 192.168.1.254 in your web browser address bar and looking in the hub manager Advanced Settings > Broadband >Internet

You have to bear with me here as I am on the limit of my knowledge! Are you referring to the IPv6 address rather than the IPv4? My email provider has told me that it is the address beginning 192. that is being blocked in the same way as Susan's above, and the IPv6 address begins with 2a00 Even if we get the address right, how do I get a IP address that will not be blocked?

Your email provider is talking absolute nonsense, 192.xxx addresses are private LAN addresses. Your public IP address is a dynamic address allocated by your ISP (BT in this case) you cannot actively change it, all you can do is disconnect your hub from line for a few minutes and when you re-connect a different address will be allocated. However, if one PC works and the other doesn't, it isn't an IP address problem as both PCs will be using the same address.
