Redirect virus on BT Hub? Or hacked?

Just wondering if the BT hub can get a redirect virus?   When visiting a website and after about 30 secs of inactivity the broswer (DuckDuckGo) redirected to  find-top-prizes-here.life

I get the BT warning page, so didn’t go any further.  But what is causing this? I haven’t seen this redirect when looking at other sites so at first I thought the problem was with the website I was visiting.  But googling the problem it was suggested it might be a hacked hub?

As suggested I then tried visiting the original site on another device (iphone) and got the same redirect happening.

So if its the hub how do I fix it?  Any ideas please?

thanks

Re: Redirect virus on BT Hub? Or hacked?

It's probably a redirect cookie picked up from another website or a cookie within the website. News sites operated by Reach Media are notorious for these because of the amount of adverts on them. Clear your cookies and temporary internet files and it should stop

As already advised, clear cookies from your browser but also disable UPnP on your router unless you really need it enabled, there is malware that loves UPnP.

Re: Redirect virus on BT Hub? Or hacked?

Hi, thanks for the quick reply, yes I cleared the DuckDuckGo cache but it still occurred strangely!
When I went direct to the site on my iphone, I’d never been to it before - the site is a church website with no ‘forced’ advertising on it.
I’ve just tried the site with wifi turned off on my iphone ( via EE) and the url almost immediately redirected to a ‘Google search winners page’ complete with ‘You have been hacked’ popups with click here links etc
So I guess its not the hub and must be the site, not sure if I should post the url?
Thanks

Thanks for your reply and suggestion also.
I’ve used the UPnP to stream to a Roberts radio, I think, well I shared music on a pc, but I don’t know if there’s another safer way.

Tbh it sounds like the website is has got some malware embedded in it. Might be worthwhile reporting it to the church admins so they can check their end

If you believe that the site you mention has in some way been hacked then it makes sense to disable UPnP, it shouldn't make any difference to your ability to stream music from Roberts Radio now that it has been established
