Removal of socket

Go to solution

Hi, I've just moved into a new gaff and discovered this socket wired 3ft off the floor in the middle of the wall.

It's not in use but I cant stand looking at it.  Can I safely remove it, tape of the wires and push back into the cavity, blocking up the hole?

Cheers

You have not said what the socket is for so I presume it is a phone socket. If it is a phone socket you can do what ever you want with it as long as you have no need for it to supply a phone or broadband to your property.

If it's a rental property you should get the landlords permission or you could find your self with a bill to reinstate it.

Hi

The socket is unused, due to its position, a second socket of apparently the same type is used for broadband.  Don't use a landline for calls.  Thanks

Hi @LiquidStool.

Thanks for coming to the community.

If it's an extension socket, this can be removed if it's not in use and you’re confident it’s safe to do so. However, if you’re unsure whether it’s still live or connected to anything, it’s best to get in touch with our Guides, who can confirm whether it’s part of an active phone or broadband line.

Alternatively, you could get a qualified electrician to inspect this for you.
