See when device was last connected?

Hi,

I am trying to figure out if it is possible to see when a specific device was last connected. Short background is that an engineer from EON came to swap a smart meter, and in the process of doing so killed my wireless speaker (presumed power surge). They refuse to take responsibility  as they 'have not seen the speaker working prior to meter replacement'. Since it's airplay enabled I hoped to prove it was still connected and working prior this.

So far I am not successful with the technical logs, as WiFi / IP specific logs only go back a couple of days. Any way to go back further, even if not through the BT Smart Hub 2 interface? the above occurred on 6th of December to give you a timeframe.

Thanks in advance for any details.

Re: See when device was last connected?

If you're lucky then yes but you will need to know the network name of the device or the IP address that it used.

Go to Technical log and click on the Event Log tab.

In their wisdom (or otherwise), BT did not consider it necessary to make this log searchable so you will need to export it to a .CSV file (click the export button), this will create a searchable file which you can open either in a text file or as a spreadsheet whichever you please and you can use this to search for the network name or IP address of the device concerned

Re: See when device was last connected?

Hi Les-Gibson,

Thanks for your quick response. I previously checked these technical logs. Unfortunately however, it seems like specific WiFi (IP / MAC) address information only goes back a couple of days, and thereafter the logs only save more generic events such as firmware updates, boot-ups etc.

For example I can see specific device activity from yesterday and can identify which device it is using the IP address and/or MAC, but if I go back say to the 5th of January, such events are scrubbed from the logs. I was hoping there may be a way to extract a full log that the router may still have saved outside of the BT Hub dashboard.

if you go to the 'technical log' as you suggested, then behind 'Category' you select 'WiFi' --> 'Set', you will see this limitation. For example currently it only goes back 23 pages and the earliest entry is from yesterday morning 11.45am (15 jan), with thereafter <<<<Limit of WiFi log >>>>>>

This is the same if I use the 'export' function. It might go back years, but the detailed WiFi info with MAC/IP addresses are not available prior to 15th of Jan.

Seems I might be out of luck.

Regardless, thank you for your suggestions. Much appreciated.

Re: See when device was last connected?

That's weird.

My own event log is 469 pages long and goes back to last August.

When exported, it produces 11707 events and I can see IP address's connecting as far as line 11698 which takes me back to the end of August last year
