Set up DDNS on EE smart router

I was using NOIP and DDNS to provide a static IP address with my old BT router BUT I now have a Smart EE router and cannot see any reference to DDNS in the advanced settings!

Has anyone had similar problems and found a solution, or has that functionality been lost with the EE kit?

P.S. I’m sure I read posts on this a few weeks ago but I can’t find them now!

Re: Set up DDNS on EE smart router

See: https://community.ee.co.uk/t5/Broadband-Landline/DDNS-on-new-black-EE-router/td-p/1326700

But depending on the EE router model, you may not be able to set the DDNS at all, and even using a standalone local DNS (PiHole) you'd need to set the DNS lookup on each individual device as you can't change the lookup via DHCP!

Re: Set up DDNS on EE smart router

The link you provided refers to the "EE Smart Hub Plus", but ijustwantedtosay’s question was about the "EE smart router". Are you saying that these are the same model or do they have the same deficiencies?

It’s hard to imagine that someone has made a router without DDNS! Every router I’ve ever had for decades has had this feature. Why remove a feature that so many people rely on? I use DDNS on my current router for accessing my camera system when on holiday.

I’ve been offered a EE smart router – model GRV9517UWAC34-A-OT.  Does this model have DDNS?

Thank you.

Re: Set up DDNS on EE smart router

There are plenty of ISP routers that don't implement DDNS.  Once you get beyond a basic usage scenario, you'll almost always need a more complex router.

*I use an Asus router and Dyn6-DDNS which means I need to run a custom script!

Re: Set up DDNS on EE smart router

Thank you for the info. I didn’t know you could run a script on a router.

I’ve had a camera system since 2009 and had no issues with any routers since and there have been many with several providers!

So what about the original question in this post and also my question…
Does the EE smart router (GRV9517UWAC34-A-OT) have DDNS?

@Crimliar

If you've an Asus router why not use the inbuilt Asus DDNS? No custom scripts or anything special, although you might need to set up an Asus account.

Re: Set up DDNS on EE smart router

1) The Asuscomm DDNS servers are unreliable and I prefer to use my own Domain name(s).
2) The built in DDNS does not retrieve the IPv6 address correctly from BR0 on the GT-AX6000
3) DynV6 allows me to set the IPv6 addresses of multiple hosts using the router prefix and the host MAC address (provided the hosts are correctly configured).

*To be able to run a script on an Asus router, it needs to be running third party firmware - I use Asus-Merlin which has the advantage of not voiding the warranty!
