Showing packet loss when testing using nperf.com

Hello, we have had BT's 900Mb/s FTTP package since May 2023 and aside from a brief stint back in early March where the BT Smart Hub 2 locked the upload speed to 50Mb/s, it's been smooth sailing.

Our setup consists of a BT Smart Hub 2 and a TP-Link Archer AX11000 acting as a Wi-Fi 6 access point, with the BT Smart Hub 2's built-in Wi-Fi disabled.

This is more of a sanity check than anything, but I've noticed when running a speedtest via nperf.com, regardless of whether using Wi-Fi or wired, I get a small amount of packet loss.

Here's the results when connected via Wi-Fi to the TP-Link AX11000

Here's the results when connected via Ethernet to the TP-Link AX11000

And here's the results when connected via Ethernet directly to the BT Smart Hub 2

Depending on the method used, there is between 0.44% and 1.80% packet loss.

If I run a test on https://speed.cloudflare.com/ it doesn't report any packet loss, so I'm inclined to believe this is either a fluke on nperf.com or normal for this type of speed test?

I'd be curious if anyone else has the same packet loss on nperf.com or if this could indicate a problem with the line.

Re: Showing packet loss when testing using nperf.com

I don't see any packet loss with nperf.com, but then again I only on VDSL so perhaps not surprising.

Which server did you use or did you allow it to choose automatically? If the server was only capable of 1Gb/s then slight packet loss might be expected , but if the server s capable of 10Gb/s it might be worth investigating further - though unlikely to make significant impact in normal use.

Re: Showing packet loss when testing using nperf.com

I see similar results with nperf.com - connected via WiFi to BT SH2 on FF 900 connection.  I get a download of ~220 Mb/s, with a packet loss between 0.4% and 2% depending on thr server I choose.

the cloudflare test shows similar downloads and 0% packet loss.

I let nperf auto-pick the best server, I do remember all showed as 10Gb/s capable though.

Re: Showing packet loss when testing using nperf.com

Interesting, if you can, what result do you get when connected via Ethernet directly to the BT hub?
