Smart hub 2 Ethernet issue

Hi I am having an issue with my new smart hub 2 we have recently converted to FTTP so the router was replaced, the old router worked fine for over 5 years. When I connect my CCTV recorder to the hub using cat5e or cat5 I can access the cameras via WiFi from phone-tablet but not from an external connection ie 4g. If I reboot the recorder it can be accessed via WiFi or 4g but after a while this is lost and can only be accessed by WiFi from a device connected to the hub wiz WiFi. ie it stops going through the hub to the internet so can only be accessed locally. It worked fine on the old hub never had a problem. Any advice..thanks.

This sounds like a DDNS issue.

Do you have a DDNS provider and if so have you setup a device on your network to update it every time your public IP address changes (which it does as BT don't provide Static IP addressing to residential customers)

You may have had port forwarding set up on your old router. You would need to replicate these on your sh2. Personally for security reasons, I don’t do this and prefer to use a vpn server to access my lan when I am remote.

Thanks for the reply’s. The cctv is about 10 years old it is accessed via a cloud server using a software app that you input its ID into it then connects to the cctv and displays images. The old router did not have any changes made to it, just plugged in and it worked. I have changed ports on the router and all work fine with other devices. I have factory reset the hub, 20 seconds press, replaces the cat5e twice. If I power off the cctv and restart it works fine for a while then is unreachable unless you use the LAN it is connected to, the router in this case, via WiFi. ie it just stops having access to the internet after a while. Have considered putting mains converters between the hub and router so that the router doses not see the cctv directly. Thanks.

How long is "a while"? are you talking minutes, hours, days, weeks? 

I still suspect it is a DDNS problem. Some CCTV systems come with a free DDNS service from the manufacturer but this is usually time limited (typical in my experience being 2 years) after which you have to provide one yourself.

One way to prove it would be to make a note of your Broadband IP address (Broadband) whilst everything is working correctly and then check it again when it stops working, if they're different then you need a new DDNS service

Thanks for your reply.  As said the unit is about 10 years old and I have had no problems until now. We upgraded to FTTP early December and all appeared fine as I could access the cameras when at home via WiFi. The problem only came to light over Christmas when we were away and found we were unable to access the cctv. On returning straight in via home WiFi tryed by phone using 4g only and nothing. Switched the cctv off and back on and could access via 4g so thought it was solved, then the next morning tryed with 4g no access but fine on WiFi. Reset router and cctv via power off for 30 seconds and all came back good, the following day access lost via 4g. So my thinking is there is something that the router is doing, or not doing, that is causing the loss. Hence I was wondering if main’s Ethernet adapters might mask the cctv from the router as it would not be directly connected to it.  Thanks again…
