Hi @redguy Better is a relative term, the SH2 is a modem/router, making your DSL Modem redundant. They are extremely cheap on eBay, so simply try it. Remember that it is a mass market device, produced in the millions. So don’t expect to much but millions are happy with it including me.
Probably not.
Put your phone number in the checker and post a screenshot of the result. Make sure you delete your personal details before posting.
You've already changed the router once with no improvement. That suggests that you either have a line fault or the BT modem is faulty.
Have you power cycled the BT modem?
Have you tried the test socket behind the master socket faceplate?
Did you do a quiet line test with the phone? (17070 option 2).
What is the model number of the TP-Link router?
As alluded to by @VeteranISPUser, a more modern BT Hub will have a VDSL modem built in, so would be another step in the elimination process. Although I'd suggest the original Smart Hub rather that the SH2 as it's more flexible & likely much cheaper. That's assuming that the TP-Link doesn't have a modem.
The link that @licquorice posted will tell you what speed you should be getting.
There is something seriously wrong with your connection, you should be getting about 70-80 Mbps.
FTTP is available to you, you might want to consider upgrading.
Edit. The checker shows you are getting 55Mbps
I guess I got to make a complaint. Does it cost money for someone to come out and fix it?
The tp link router is Archer AX12 ax1500
When I'm the only one connected, the speed drops down to unbearable levels.
I can get the smart hub 2 for about £5. If I get this, does that mean I can get rid of the white box on the wall?
Never even come close to 10mbps let alone 55mbps. Its been like this for YEARS.
You are getting 55Mbps to your modem.
Are you sure you are confusing Mb and MB.
