TV Box causing WiFi drop out

Go to solution

I have a BT TV with BT halo broadband and a Smart Hub 2.

Recently whenever the TV starts using the internet to stream apps such as Netflix, the wifi on all other connected devices drops out.

The TV box has a wired connection to the hub so I can’t understand how the wifi is being affected at all, but as soon as I start streaming the issue occurs.

If anyone has had similar and can explain how to fix the issue I’d greatly appreciate it.

I have previously reset both the hub and TV box which temporarily fixed the issue but I need a permanent fix

Thanks in advance

We had the opposite problem. We had to turn off the WIFI connection to all our phones etc in order for the TV to load Netflix etc. The TV maybe hard wired but it is still sharing the speed that your Hub is given. We now have Satellite with a  very, very high speed.

What's your broadband speed? Has it perhaps dropped recently?
If it's quite low, it seems likely that streaming takes up most of a limited bandwidth, so it starves your other devices of broadband. This would happen whether they are WiFi connected or hardwired.

Hi @AndyPlummer

Thanks for reaching out here on the community.

I am sorry to hear you have been facing these issues whilst streaming, I could imagine this to be very frustrating.

Please could you try the following steps to see if it  helps.

  • Replace the Ethernet cable between the TV box and hub.
  • Move the TV box to a different LAN port on the hub.
  • If possible, temporarily connect the TV box via Wi‑Fi instead of Ethernet and see if the issue stops.

If you are still experiencing streaming issues after trying the above steps, I would recommend Contacting our guides and they will be able to take a look for you.

Thanks

Ritu

I went around in circles with these steps. New routers, new wires etc. It is probably the service to your property that is the issue.
