Third Party Modem for Full Fibre 900

Go to solution

Hi, can anyone please recommend a modem only to use with Full Fibre 900

i.e. gigabit internet via PPPoE

Wondering about the Draytek Vigor 130 but confused if this would get the gigabit speed ?

Looking to pair it with a Firewalla Gold, but hear they have issues with PPPoE and Gigabit speeds.

This also assume you cannot put a BT smart hub into bridge mode ?

Thanks

Graham

Why do you want a modem, you already have one, the ONT is the modem. The hub is just acting as a router.

You can't replace the ONT with a different modem.

The firewalla gold as far as I'm aware has some issue with performance when logging in via PPPoE

Hence, wondering how to get around that ?

So I would just want a simple router that can to gigabit and bridge mode ?

No idea why you keep mentioning bridge mode. The PPPoE session is handled by the router. There is no point in adding another router in bridge mode as the PPPoE session will be handled by the final device.

I want to use the Firewalla Gold as a router, but if you use it to log in via PPPoE the gigabit speed will drop, sometimes to half the speed.

But from what you are saying it seems that the PPPoE session wold need to be done by the final router. So no way around it. Hmm
