Re: VPN on port forwarding
Why would you not want to always use the same IP Address for one of your home devices, eg 192.168.1.70 ? Unless I'm misunderstanding your question.

Re: VPN on port forwarding
Your private IP address (which is what the hub allocates) is not visible to the internet. There will be thousands, if not millions, of devices with the same address. That is why NAT (network address translation) was invented.
A VPN is an entirely different thing,

Re: VPN on port forwarding
The question doesn't make sense.
Port forwarding and VPN operation are entirely different things.

Really not sure what you're asking.
In my network at home every device on my system has an assigned local IP address, not necessary but that's the way I like to do things. I could just let the router assign them but when I assign them I can link between devices better for example I map my file servers to my PC's using my assigned IP addresses.
I also run VPNs on my 3 computers but that's nothing to do with the router although I can use a VPN on mine.
The VPN's I use do give me greater security when accessing some sites where I wish to keep my visible IP address hidden. Not doing anything illegal btw.
Assigning my local IP addresses has nothing to do with security just convenience and the BT router gives you the option to always use the same local IP address if you wish.
Does that cover enough or is there something very specific you're concerned about?
