I have BT smart hub 2 and also some IoT devices. I want them on separate networks so that the IoT device cannot see the laptops and vice-versa. What do I need? Do I need some form of Vlan and separate wifi hub?
I know this may be contentious, but in my honest opinion, I don't think any of the BT hubs are upto the task. Actually, even my Asus GT-AX6000 would require me to swap out my Asus RP-AX58 mesh node, and my layer 2 switch for devices that*properly* understand VLANs. Even then I'd only get basic isolation, and would probably have to write a routing script (preserved after reboots) for the router.
It's a nice idea, and something that I'm moving towards but is definitely not currently practical in most situations!
For the future I'm probably looking to replace the GT-AX6000 with a Banana Pi R4 pro running OpenWRT, a small switch and an OpenMesh compatible WiFi node.
I realise that I probably need extra equipment but could I get a hub and wire connect this to the BT Smart Hub 2 and then setup some different network addresses/subnets?
Unless you have Digital Voice, you don't need the BT hub. Just use a third party router without the hub.
