Which socket is which??

Hi all

Decided to go ahead and fill in two supposedly redundant openreach boxes.

My plan was to tape off any wires I found, stuff them into the wall, and fill with expanding foam then filler. Obviously leaving the master socket alone for phone&internet connection.

The Master socket definitely, definitely connects to a BT pole (I have checked the markings).

However it has only two wires to the socket itself (white to B, orange to A). No further connections from the terminals 5, 3 or 2.

So that’s fine. But we are in a basement and dealing with two other openreach boxes - one seems to be the end of a circuit (eg wires in only) and another has a definite set of wires in and wires out.

This is making me second-guess my approach. What are these two supposedly secondary boxes connected to, if not the Master Socket?

Whats the best next step? I should I grab my multimeter and test all three sockets to be sure?

I tried to attach some photos but the files are too large .

Thank you.

Re: Which socket is which??

They could be long redundant extensions, although your other thread raised a query over one of them also appearing to be a master socket, due to the filtered faceplate. Maybe the property once had two lines or a new master socket was fitted at some point replacing the original.

If the property has working internet at what you've identified  as the master socket, everything else is redundant. But if service isn't yet provisioned then proceed with caution in case what you think is the master is actually faulty/disconnected outside.

Re: Which socket is which??

provided not moved to digital voice then try connecting a phone to the sockets and see if you get ring tone suggesting socket live.

is there anywhere the incoming line goes to junction box and then wires from there to the 'master' and into basement giving the star wire effect
