bt smart hub 2 and third part router and wi fi disks?

I am thinking of purchasing a asus rt-ax88u to replace my bt hub. Unfortunately i have digital voice and bt complete wi fi. I know the bt hub needs to be used connected to the ont and the asus connected to the hub lan port also the complete wi fi doesn't work with the asus. My question is will the disk which is ethernet connected still work if connected to the bt hub? does wifi on the bt hub being off or on make a difference?

would a whole home white disk work if the black one doesn't?

Re: bt smart hub 2 and third part router and wi fi disks?

What is your goal here?  It sounds like a Frankenstein network!  Sure there are a couple of ways to use a third party router with a BT hub, but if the goal is to replace the WiFi network why are you considering keeping the BT WiFi discs?

Unless there is a specific usage case, I would save your money - and that's coming from someone who has an Asus GT-AX6000 plugged directly into the ONT (I don't have any BT phone products).

I only learn by making mistakes and owning up to them - boy do I learn a lot!

Re: bt smart hub 2 and third part router and wi fi disks?

Thanks for the reply. My problem is I want to keep the bt voice hence I need the bt hub,I have no WiFi in the conservatory without a disk. The main reason I’m getting frequent intermittent drop outs on WiFi and Ethernet that last 3 to 5 min then come back on . Engineers have tried to resolve for the last 9 months with a suggestion I can end contract early without solution.  My thoughts are to change modem.

Dropping out on Wi-Fi could be a fault and/or interference (or poor equipment).  Dropping out on ethernet woud suggest a fault.  Using the same disks with and  a third-party router is very unlikely to change that.  You need to identify the root cause properly.

Re: bt smart hub 2 and third part router and wi fi disks?

If you get 3-5 minute interruptions on your Ethernet then plugging in your ASUS router to the BTHub will still surely result in 3-5 minute interruptions to your ASUS router.

What do you mean by 3-5 minute interruptions to WiFi and Ethernet? If you mean you lose the WiFi and Ethernet connections to your router for that period then that suggests a problem  with your router, if you mean there is no response to things like Web page requests on the Internet then that would suggest the line from your router back to the BT exchange is the issue. Presumably BT have changed the router multiple times?

As you seem to be on Full Fibre has the Cable from ONT to router been changed, and has the ONT ever been changed?

Re: bt smart hub 2 and third part router and wi fi disks?

when i say that I loose internet there is no response to web pages , the lights on the ont and  hub are normal. Ookla Speedtest and FAST say no internet. Bt hub been changed ,new power supply, new ethernet cable between ont and router, ont changed. Countless engineer and open reach and tech expert visits who say everything is fine. when I ring bt help I get a different person who I have to explain everything to and then they try from scratch to fix it. All efforts for the last 9 months have failed, There seems no one even when Ive tried to escalate can offer any solutions. My viewing of Netflix, amazon prime, is frustrating because of the dropouts.

Re: bt smart hub 2 and third part router and wi fi disks?

Have you looked in the event log on you SH2 when one of these events occurs - does it show anything unexpected? Can you post a copy of the relevant section of the log - if it shows anything? How often does the issue show up and is it worse at any particular time?

I strongly suspect based on what you say that the problem is not at your end, but further up the link in which case changing router is unlikely to make much difference. Borrowing a different router to the SH2 and using that for a short while (you will lose DV whilst doing so) might confirm it is / is not the SH2 that is the source of the issue.
