Yes I agree the timeline should be defaulted to off as certainly the MotoGP use of the timeline does seem to give immediate spoilers (overtakes/crashes/penalties). There also seems to be a different (inconsistent) approach in how the timeline works between sports. Eg if I replayed yesterdays Football I only get the timeline events that have occured upto the point I have watched whereas the MotoGP gives all at the start.
Probably worth mentioning that timeline markers are I believe available on some programming on specific devices rather than across the board although I believe Discovery+ have been expanding its availability.
It’s most frustrating when watching Moto GP later on. If you want to fast forward to the race start you need to go up to the scroll bar to get to the race start icon. But for some reason they have decided that the “cursor” starts at the far right so you then have to go left across the bar seeing every event of the race before you can get to the start icon.
An utterly rubbish poorly thought out and delivered design.
I find the time line for moto gp a spoiler, firstly if it lists one overtake and an overtake at the front happens on lap 1 then you know who’s gonna win the race. The crash symbols, you now know there’s going to be crashes you don’t know who but it’s in the back off your mind.
maybe the timeline can be offered at the start of the stream.
I would prefer the time was spent just putting the feed up as sometimes when I come home from work there’s nothing Available.
On another note regarding timelines it’s almost like the people who thought of it don’t get sport, I don’t want to know anything that’s what sport is you don’t now what’s going to happen, or maybe they think we just watch moto gp for the crashes or overtakes and can’t believe that people actually follow this stuff. A cartoon like yellow flash, look you can go straight to the crashes and watch this guy break his neck, I wonder what emoji there will be for a fatality a skull and cross bones.
I get it with UFC coz you can go to the start of the fights but maybe they’ll ruin that with a knockout emoji.
The "good part" of watching sport is the anticipation from not knowing what is about to happen.
If other users want to use timeline markers to skip through coverage then fine. But the small step of turning them on first is a small price to pay. For those of us who do not want to see them it is a big price as it is impossible to "unsee" them even after turning them off.
I think the coverage I was watching that prompted me to start this thread was an error somewhere. Can't say I have noticed it since though where possible I like to record sport coverage rather than use catch up so maybe I have not been watching anything since with timeline markers.
