Serie A broadcasting restrictions

Go to solution

Was looking to watch the Milan derby on BT Sport 1 but BT Sport Score only ended at around 17:05-17:10ish.
It then cut to Golazzo live where the host said broadcasting restrictions meant it couldn’t be shown until around 17:15 due to broadcasting regulations.

Is this likely to be the case all season for the 5pm Serie A kickoffs that are shown on BT?

Yep it will be the '3pm blackout' (actually the 14:45-17:15 blackout) applies to all both domestic and foreign footaball, there are some exceptions (e.g. England women playing Austria at the moment). Eleven Sports briefly tried to break the blackout when they had La Liga rights but were slapped back into line, plus of course during COVID there was no blackout at all.

Only England and Scotland still have a blackout and in the past S4C have shown Welsh league football during the period (technically I think it should've been blocked in England/Scotland but it never was).

Bookmaker websites have got around the blackout so that's been the best (legal) option but I haven't seen if they any of them still show Serie A.
