BT FTTP and ALTNETS

FTTP infrastructure was installed in my area several years ago and FTTP services were offered by two different Altnets (UPP and Lightspeed). We are in Stamford, Lincs. BT FTTP was not available. That has changed and BT FTTP is now available. Presumably the installation of the hardware in the street was done by Openreach and is the same hardware that is used, and will be used, by the Altnets and by BT.

Just an update, really, for information. I’ve been waiting for the BT product to become available and wondered if it would become available given that the Altnet services were available. The situation is now resolved.

Re: BT FTTP and ALTNETS

The type of equipment Alt Nets use may be similar to that used by Openreach, but doesn’t have to be , if these Alt Nets have used  Openreach poles, joint boxes , ducts etc ( using Passive Infrastructure Access  )  , they are installed in the same way .

Each individual Alt Nets network topology doesn’t really matter if it’s different to Openreach, because Openreach doesn’t use the Alt Nets  kit , and the Alt Net doesn’t use Openreach kit , it’s just exists in the same space if they use PIA.

Re: BT FTTP and ALTNETS

The Technology Openreach/Upp/Lightspeed use is different and not interchangeable.

If you have service from say Upp and switch to a Provider that uses Openreach Equipment you’ll need all brand new cabling and equipment installed.
