Broadband forum names, 'BT fibre broadband' and 'ADSL/copper broadband', FTTC not obvious

FTTC has copper on the last stretch to the house, it has fibre too. Shouldn't there be brackets (FTTP/FTTC) for 'BT fibre broadband' forum. I honestly don't know where my threads on the FTTC connection would go into, it is technically a hybrid so the naming of the two forums is technically bad considering FTTC is a very common package.

Re: Broadband forum names, 'BT fibre broadband' and 'ADSL/copper broadband', FTTC not obvious

It would appear that virtually every person that uses the forum seems to manage to place their Fibre broadband question, regardless of whether it is FTTP or FTTC, into the BT Fibre broadband board without an issue and the questions get answered. If the forum member answering needs to know specifically if it is FTTP or FTTC  they simply ask the poster.

On the very odd occasion when a poster posts on the "wrong" board such as an ADSL question on the Fibre board or vice versa, this is quickly and easily remedied by forum Moderator or C/Ls moving it onto the correct board.

I personally see no need to make any changes to the title of the board.

Re: Broadband forum names, 'BT fibre broadband' and 'ADSL/copper broadband', FTTC not obvious

For people who think technically like me, they like to know where they can get a better response. Rather than just wing it. Get this, you never know the standards of some forums, so the Copper section could be MEANT for the FTTC packages.

The ONLY reason the forums are unhelpfully labeled is because the BT forums keep to their ambiguous marketing terms. LIke in the names of their packages like 'fibre essential' on a FTTC package.  They wouldn't want to hint to customers to know standard copper is from the cabinet to the house, because, that's 'not cool in the modern world'.

Hardly helpful language. The brackets (FTTC/FTTP) assure technical thinkers.

I could bet purely technical forums if listing sub forums like fibre connnections will be titled 'Fibre broadband (FTTC/FTTP). There's no marketing spin interests you see.

People who follow the spin, will just go to the 'Fibre' section based on their BT package name. Right... Lucky for them.

Annoying for technically inclinded thinkers who likes things done properly. Because, what if expertise in the copper forum is better suited to FTTC technology, since copper is used from the cabinet to the house.

I like things done properly. So like to know where I'm posting is where I'll get my best help.

I know that's fine, I just wanted to point out that the ONLY reason the forums are unhelpfully labeled is because the BT forums keep to BT's ambiguous marketing terms. Like in the names of their packages like 'fibre essential' on a FTTC package.  They wouldn't want to hint to customers to know standard copper is from the cabinet to the house, because, that's 'not cool in the modern world'.

Annoying for technically inclinded thinkers who likes things done properly. Because, what if expertise in the copper forum is better suited to FTTC technology, since copper is used from the cabinet to the house. It's possible.

Instead, I was greeted with marketing ambiguity. Annoying.

Re: Broadband forum names, 'BT fibre broadband' and 'ADSL/copper broadband', FTTC not obvious

"only your opinion or is it a fact that technically inclined thinkers would see as being correct?"

What you quoted has nothing to do with technically inclined thinkers or my opinion; it is ambiguity that can be simply remedied with brackets and is not remedied as such because of BT's marketing because it is a fact that 'fibre' and 'copper' named forums are ambiguous considering the nature of FTTC. I would say any properly technically inclined thinkers who know FTTC would find the naming of the forums awkward. Some faults on their line may be on the copper technology side of the FTTC, and the symptoms belonging to copper technology may be unique to the copper technology side of the FTTC. As such, technically, when trying to seek unknown issues on an FTTC package, you can technically be in splits because it is a hybrid connection, so 'Fibre' and 'Copper' are like, "Which section should I try my luck in first?". Posters with certain expertise willing to help with better knowledge in only copper or fibre technology might linger on only one of the subforums, so you never know if certain symptoms are better picked up on and remedied in one of the two subforums. If the 'Fibre' forum was bracketed (FTTC/FTTP), technically inclined thinkers would put this all to bed and would know any expertise regarding the entire FTTC chain would be found in that bracketed labelled forum.

When you say "It would appear", how do you know that there are no technically minded people with doubts in their minds who simply opt for the 'Fibre' forum, most closely titled after their ambigiously named 'Fibre Essential" FTTC package and that they aren't still left thinking "Am I in the right place?". You don't know.

Basic bracketed labels are sure to rest any technically inclined mind with doubts very easily—more easily than the posters waiting or wondering, then the moderator reading (however long that takes to happen), and then the moderator transferring the post. If it landed in the right forum section right away, they may have gotten the best response quicker too.

And for such simple brackets, it reduces the chances of any 'very odd occasion' that a person lands in the wrong section.

The forum labels are ambiguous regarding the nature of FTTC. It isn't an opinion. Most FTTC customers simply go for "fibre" due to it being closely named to their ambiguous FTTC package name of 'Fibre Essential." It suits BT's marketing, and it's obvious the labelled forums can cause the odd FTTC customer to be a bit confused when wanting to seek quick, proper help. The moderators aren't always quick to transfer threads to the right place.

For those simply opting for the 'Fibre' forum that's closely named to their 'Fibre Essential" package, the brackets do not matter, and for any technically inclined customers wanting the best and quickest help, it sorts them out too. The brackets would have been a done thing by BT from the get-go; why not? watertight clarity for all people with such simple brackets, but no, when making the forums, it was like, "Let's keep to the ambiguous, safe marketing lingo'. Hence my feverish attitude towards pointing it out.

Re: Broadband forum names, 'BT fibre broadband' and 'ADSL/copper broadband', FTTC not obvious

Oh, come now.  Surely it would be clearer labelled as:

“Asymmetric hybrid fibre with VDSL (G.993.2) over copper for the last mile and possible vectoring (G.993.5), G.INP (G.998.4) or G.Fast (G.9701)”.

.......Catchy title.  I like it.
