Can telephone wires go on electrical poles?

Go to solution

Hi, we are currently building a house. The garden has both electric and telephone wooden poles.

We need to move the telephone pole 2m, yes 2m, had a survey, paid the ££££'s but the work is yet to be done. Had a date set for September, they didn't turn up, 100's of emails, waiting for this and that, chasing, I've lost all confidence in them and it's now costing us as the build can't progress.

We also had a sorry looking electric pole on site. They came out, didn't like the look of it and installed a new one...the same day!!!

So my question is, can telephone wires be attached to electric poles? Then we can just remove the telephone pole completely.

Thanks.

@Mark33

This is a BT Retail Customer forum, and has nothing to do with Openreach that provide the network.

As you are already in touch with Openreach, you need to raise the issue with them. They would not normally run telephone wires on electricity poles, owing to the safety hazard.

Yes and No.

Not all Power Companies allow Openreach to attach their Equipment/Cables to their Electric Poles.

If they do then Openreach can’t just put their kit on the Pole, they have to apply for a License from the Electric Company and it then becomes known as a, JUP, Joint User Pole.

Openreach can’t put any of their Equipment/Cabling on any Electric Poles that have HV on them.
