Misconduct on the community boards?

I have to admit I'm concerned that one of the distinguished sages on these boards is either managing to remove other people posts directly or have them removed, possibly by a moderator.  If it is by a moderator, it's probably the same one that seems to consistently pick the same distinguished sages as top answer, no matter how wrong or inappropriate their answer might be.  This seems to have been going on for a while!  Is it just me, or is anyone else noticing this too?

I only learn by making mistakes and owning up to them - boy do I learn a lot!

Re: Misconduct on the community boards?

One of my posts was removed within 5 minutes of me posting it a couple of weeks back undoubtedly because someone didn’t like the response I gave back. It’s a tad big brother here and definitely not like some of the forums I’m engaged with. Criticism isn’t really tolerated on this forum. Definitely a ‘toe the line or move on’ vibe here.

Re: Misconduct on the community boards?

I am not going to get into this for obvious reasons but I would like to point out that it is very rare that posts are removed and if they are the poster is normaly told why by the moderator.

What can and does happen is posts can be merged into another thread if it is relevant to that thread. They can also be moved onto a different board if it is on the wrong board.

In case you are not aware if you can not find your post, if you click on your username it will bring up all your posts.

I would add that I would not be surprised if this thread gets removed because it is not the way to complain about a forum member. You should either use the "report inappropriate" button or email message a moderator.

Re: Misconduct on the community boards?

One thing to note particularly if the post is not visible a few mins after posting that there is a spam check that uses AI that would quarantine the post if it has spam like characteristics. These go into a queue for a moderator to review.

Re: Misconduct on the community boards?

Hi @Crimliar

On occasion, posts may be flagged as spam or inappropriate by our systems and automatically quarantined. This could be for a number of reasons - you can see more about this in BT Community Terms of Use - BT Community. All quarantined posts are reviewed by our moderation team in a timely manner, but you may see a delay outside of working hours.

If you feel a post has been removed incorrectly, please send any of our staff a private message and we will be happy to review.

I can confirm that your most recent deleted post was quarantined by our spam filter and I have already reinstated the post.

Lesley

Re: Misconduct on the community boards?

I post on a lot of different forums, (under different names) and you know me.  I’m a nice guy….ha ha ha.  To be fair, I think this forum is one of the best there is in terms of free speech.

On certain other forums anything even vaguely critical is instantly removed.  (So quickly, in fact, that I suspect I have been added to some sort of automated censor list at times).  Actually, even mentioning the word “censorship” seems to get you censored on one forum.  I got to the stage one time where anything I post disappeared straight away.  I ended up creating a new account under completely different credentials.  (I’m like a tick.  Pain in the butt and not that easy to get rid of).

I think the worst is Sky.  Don’t you dare say anything critical on there, whatever you do.

And one of the reasons I will not move to EE is because I have been censored on there previously, to the point where I’ve had to abandon that account and create a new one.  The level of censorship on there seems to be far higher than here, for some reason.  (The level of technical support is certainly poorer).

I am dismayed that the same moderator team now covers this forum but so far it still seems to be pretty sensible.  Let’s hope that continues.

Re: Misconduct on the community boards?

Just read this. I'm not sure what it's all about but there is a saying that comes to mind when talking about censorship which is "I don't agree with what you say, but I'll defend your right to say it". Moderators should remember this before removing posts, but are Moderators really removing posts on subjects they don't agree with? Or is that just an illusion? If posts are being removed it normally is because they have been posted on the wrong forums or under the wrong thread, or are total nonsense subjects not related to BT issues.

But if people are posting things like "I don't agree with the telephone line switch off" or "I don't like what BT are doing with my local payphones" then those posts must remain and be shared with the Community, whether we agree with them or not.

I think Moderators do a good job all in all. But I don't think I'd like to be one. It must be very hard work.
