Transferring a contract to wife

Go to solution

I am getting divorced and moving house. The BT contract is currently in my name for another year. I will be moving abroad and will not require BT. My wife has agreed to take over the contract but is there a method for doing this or is she stuck with it until it expires?

No one offers this transfer of liability except in the case of bereavement, the no cost option is to continue to pay until as you do until the end of the minimum term then your Ex takes over the service (not transferring the existing contract) in the same way someone moving into the address with no previous relationship would , or she applies to take over the service before then  , in which this cancels your ‘contract’ , you are then liable for any early termination charges.

I suggest you speak to BT about it.

This is a customer to customer forum. Although if there is anyone reading this with a similar experience then they may be able to advise you.

@Rangers2026  It always amazes me, that divorce still isn't treated by some companies in the same way as bereavements are in terms of handing over responsibility for future payments. Having been there some 3 decades ago, I found myself in a similar position whereby I had to keep paying for months for literally everything after the parting even though my ex was willing to pay. It seem nothing has changed. I hope you can get this resolved and best of luck for your future.

Why do you always make your reply to a post about you!

@Rangers2026

BT do not normally allow transfer of accounts. You could call BT Billing 0330.1234.150 and ask but don't get your hopes up.

I thought you had started to help and give good answers for a while but no, you revert to type and post about you and what you do etc. Forum users now know more about you and your past than they know about their own!

@gg30340  Yeah, whatever, you actually know jack about me, so stop making stuff up. I've given you another sarcastic kudo for your effort.

I won't bore all the forum members listing everything about your life that you have posted about your self but you should check back your posts. It might surprise you.
