Firefox when using BT email the "To:" field not being completed when selecting a contact, the TO field only contains the characters typed and marked illegal"
Answer
"To:" field displays only your typed characters in a red box marked as "invalid" or "illegal," is a known compatibility glitch between Firefox (v147.0 and later) and the BT Webmail interface. When you select a contact from the dropdown, Firefox fails to pass the full contact object to the field, causing it to reject the partial text as a malformed address.
Firefox Update Conflict: The issue became widespread following the Firefox 147.0 update in early 2026. It appears to be a breakdown in how Firefox handles the JavaScript selection event used by BT's mail platform.
I'm having the same issue. Phoned BT Premium Mail who said no-one else had reported the problem and that the issue likely to be my PC!
Cleared cache, still the same problem. Logged in using Chrome instead of Firefox - no issue! Seems to be a Firefox problem.
Chrome . Microsoft Edge , Gmail all seem to be OK , just Mozilla Firefox with the problem
Which, if anybody bothered to read the thread rather than blindly posting, they would have been informed of that countless times.
Being snarky helps nobody.
Nor can we be expected to read through the whole thread, especially when different threads keep being merged.
Of course you can, that's the whole point of a forum!!!

So you expect others to read it on your behalf and spoon feed the answers repeatedly for those that can not be bothered to read before they post! How very "community " minded!
Does anyone have any news on when or indeed if Firefox are going to fix this issue please.
It is a recognised problem that when using Firefox BT email does not automatically fill in the email address if you start putting in the name - it is necessary to go through a round about route to get there.
Many people have had tot the same issue - which was corrected for one day and then reverted back. I have persisted with Firefox as I m used to the browser and like it but will have to change of this doesn't get sorted.
Any news heard out there? Thanks
Charles
Firefox and BT are working on a fix. It is not known how long that will take.
