New phone GMail ... BT account problem

I have set up gmail... my BTinternet emails are being received, BUT when replying it is sending from my Gmail account. On old phone both gmail and BT were offered. Under Account Management "link this account with a gmail account" when I try to link my BT account after entering my password I receive "third party email service error"

Note incoming and outgoing Ports correct and SSL set up... now confused and frustrated... many thanks in advance for any help proffered

@JoeMM

This is a massive shot in the dark, I genuinely have no idea if this is in any way the same sort of issue, but read through the following thread and see if it solves the problem 🤷‍♂️

Re: New phone GMail ... BT account problem

It is not clear how you have set things up so I am assuming you have a gmail account and you have added a BTMail account to that. Both your gamail and BTMail received emails are showing in the gmail Inbox and you are wanting to reply an email using the BTMail account rather than the gmail account. Is that correct?

Are you using your gmail account on a web browser or an email client/app and if so which one?

If you are using a web browser you need to click on your profile at the top right of the gmail email page which should open a drop down box where you can select which email account you wish to use when you are replying.

It is slightly different if you are using an email client/app which I will post in another message if you are.

Re: New phone GMail ... BT account problem

Hi, your first paragraph is correct. My phone is a Samsung S22.

I downloaded the Gmail APP via the Google store.

I use my BT email as my default on and 99.9% of my friends contacts etc use this to contact me.

In summary I am receiving emails sent to my BT address however when replying it identifies as being sent from my Gmail account. Friends may think this is a malicious / fraud email.

The process to link my BT to Gmail is very simple ... basically it just asks you to input your password and that's where it fails.

As mentioned server ports etc ( which were pre populated ) are correct as per BT information... I am completely mystified as to why it is failing. I even called BT ??

Re: New phone GMail ... BT account problem

Are you a BT Broadband customer or paying for your email account through a BTMail Premium account?

If your BTMail account is the primary email account that you use I would suggest that you would be better not to use the gmail app as your email app. It is primarily set up to automatically use the gmail account but if you have added your BTMail account to your gmail account in the gmail app you need to click on your Profile at the top right of the app and select your BTMail account which should be showing in the list.

This will switch gmail to use the BTMail account when you are sending or replying to an email sent to the BTMail account.

Unless you have an need to use the gmail app I suggest that you try another free email app such as BlueMail which I and others on this forum use without problem.

If you download and install the Bluemail app and set it up with your BTMail account. It will be the primary email account in that app. Once that is up and running and if you want, you can add the gmail account as well.

This will show in the Bluemail accounts and you will easily be able to switch between them

Re: New phone GMail ... BT account problem

If you have a Samsung S22 it comes with a built-in email client which works seamlessly with multiple email accounts. I have 4 email accounts in operation on my Samsung and each works completely independently of the others.
Why don't you use that, instead of messing around with the gmail app?
Or are you on basic BT internet email which can't use email clients?

Re: New phone GMail ... BT account problem

Thank you for your reply, this morning suddenly I was given the option when sending a new email as to whether I wanted to send from Gmail or BT.

I chose BT... but again once I had sent it there was no record in the "Gmail sent box" the next email I chose my Gmail address and once sent sure enough it showed in my "Gmail sent box"

I will take a look at bluemail

Many thanks

If you sent it from the BTMail account it will show in the BTMail account sent box. You need to select the BTMail account within the gmail app in order to see that.
