Phishing response

Go to solution

My wife and I both receive phishing emails which are allegedly from BT or occasionally EE.  Early this week I forwarded one to the dedicated BT address which deals with these.  The email address was that of a company and I assumed that this had been hacked.  I was surprised to see that, three days later, the same address was still being used to mimic BT's emails.  How soon are the phishing emails read, does anyone know?  Surely the account should be locked instantly.

You will probably find that the purported email address that sent you the email is not the email address that actually sent the email. You can see this if you check the email headers.

The email address that you see will be a "spoofed" email address that the scammers are using to try and fool you that it is genuine and they will constantly be changing the sending email address/domain to beat the spam filters.
