Where is the intelligence of BT email programmers?

Go to solution

Overnight I received 98 emails to my inbox from just 2 addresses, which I have now blocked

Surely BT should recognise these duplicates as spam and deal with them accordingly. If they cannot do anything about it, I suggest they hire staff that can.

Have you checked the email headers to see if the actual email account that sent it is the same as the email is purporting to have been sent from.

The email address that you see in the address box can be spoofed to appear as something different from the actual one that sent it.

As a result of the above blocking spammer emails is a waste of time.

You do not need to open them. If using webmail you tick the box to the left of the email in the list then go to the menu bar at the top of the list and click on more then view source.

OK, thank you. I'll do that in future. One more question, I have blocked the two that I received, were they the correct addresses to block?

You need to look for the email address in the header and block that or its domain.

You will no doubt find that it will be a waste of time because the email addresses and domains are computer generated and are constantly changed to defeat the spam filters.

You may find setting up a Rule will work better as you can set the Rule settings with different words etc.

Re: Where is the intelligence of BT email programmers?

Solved it, during my current run of excessive spam, I have set a cunning rule that sends everything to the spam folder. I then look for real mail, move it to the inbox and empty the spam folder with one click. It will work perfectly if I remember to move the legitimate mail first. It should be easy as I don't receive much real mail. When the spam tails off I'll remove the rule.
