Re: BT TV Box Pro - comments/questions

@DarrenDev  So it seems it is passing PCM 2.0 thru to DD+ 5.1 correctly  -  but when the audio is a DD/DD+ 2.0 source it gets it wrong.

That makes sense @ozsat !

@DarrenDev It would be nice if this could also be considered in a product improvement (software?) update, to handle audio switching correctly too, so that the Denon does not need to be in "Direct" audio mode. It's the only source I have where I need to force the AVR into direct mode. I do appreciate that this will possibly fall quite low down the priority list though, as I suspect the vast majority of people probably don't notice this as they probably listen through their TV speakers or through 2.0/2.1 soundbars.

Also, to address an earlier comment, I think the link we have on this forum to proper product specialists is great and it's good to get information direct from the people who know, regardless of whether it is good or bad news! There have been multiple occasions where I have been on the phone with 150 and asked questions that they don't know the answers to, but which can be found or easily addressed on this forum. I don't blame them for not knowing, it's not necessarily within their remit, but having this direct link on the forum is appreciated. It works both ways too, as we can also help highlight and diagnose things in more detail that might otherwise be missed or not understood properly by people raising a ticket via 150. Keep up the good work!

Cheers!

I don't think it should  be treated as a product improvement - it should be an ungent required product fix.

I get where you are coming from. But unfortunately, the problem is that I suspect we are in a minority of users, compared to other improvements they may be working on which would affect the masses. I would guess that most users will be listening via built in TV speakers and stereo soundbars and therefore won't even notice this.

Re: BT TV Box Pro - comments/questions

I have managed a temp work around, I downloaded the NOW tv app onto my TV so I can now watch all the sky content with full 5:1 sound Surround, I have also downloaded the BT Sport app ont my Nvidia Sheild so I can watch sport again with sound surround. Not really acceptable but its better than the the flat mono sound using the Pro box. This shows that my Sony Receiver is working correctly.

Re: BT TV Box Pro - comments/questions

Thanks everyone ... especially @Will168 for that really detailed testing.

It can clearly be seen from those results that the worst offenders are the multicast channels.  A ticket has been raised to investigate those channels specifically, as the encoding is entirely within our remit to fix.

We think a ticket has already been raised for the volume issue - we're looking for it now to check for progress.

For all the other channels, does putting the receiver into the "default" mode (for want of a better word) give you a satisfactory experience?  e.g. for regular stereo channels, I would expect most receivers to be able to extract Pro Logic II virtual surround information.  Is that the case?  Or does the DD+2.0 delivery prevent any intelligence in the receiver from kicking in?

Re: BT TV Box Pro - comments/questions

@DarrenDev  I think that is completely the issue.

The T4000 outputs the correct signal and that is seen as the signal incoming on the Denon amp i.e Dolby Digital 2.0 and then the amp does with this what it is told i.e leave as stereo or use Dolby pro logic to mix a psudeo surround signal BUT the pro box is sending out a DD+ 5.1 signal no matter what the actual broadcast format is and therefore the amp just outputs the mixed signal that it gets from the pro box (with any special effects you ask) and depending on how the pro box has mixed that it can be ok or rubbish. This isn’t a desirable situation for anyone with a half decent surround setup.

Re: BT TV Box Pro - comments/questions

@DarrenDev- just had a complete Box Pro lock-up again - second one now - so twice in a month. I can't find you reply to the first one.

Remote and box not responding at all to anything and BT Sport video stream froze.

Re: BT TV Box Pro - comments/questions

A small update on the sound issue:

It has been confirmed that all of the BT Sports and one of the Sky Sports channels has a problem with the audio encoding. It's being investigated by our head end team - we're currently not sure if the issue is at source, or during encoding.  They're working to get it identified and fixed ASAP.

Re: BT TV Box Pro - comments/questions

I am having an issue integrating this new box with the rest of my AV kit. My box is plugged into my Onkyo AVR, which is plugged into my Samsung TV.

Whenever I turn the box on/off (whether that is by the front button, the new bluetooth remote, or an old IR remote), the box seems to send spurious CEC commands that cause my TV and AVR to both select the wrong source inputs.

I have put the bluetooth remote into 'Set Top Box' mode, but this has not helped matters.

I need a way to turn this 'feature' off. Not only is is causing incorrect behavior at the moment, but even if it was working correctly I wouldn't want the BT box to control the source selection anyway. I have a Harmony system that does that for me.
