ADSL connection EE broadband will it work after BT Digital switchover

Rather confused had a letter off BT saying the existing landline is outdated and is being replaced with the digital service. As a result of the change you can no longer take a broadband and a landline from different providers and I need to switch to BT broadband in order to keep BT home phone service.

I have my landline phone with BT and ADSL broadband with EE, I have a main phone socket which I have an adapter plugged into to split the phone and ASDL connections. I use a T link modem router. Will this ASDL connection still work for my EE broadband? Will I need a new socket for the phone I have read on here about plugging the phone into a BT smart hub, would I need to get one of these off BT for the phone and still use my TLink modem router for my EE broadband?

Re: ADSL connection EE broadband will it work after BT Digital switchover

There has been a few similar posts recently , presumably BT are currently in the process of moving BT customers like you , on what’s called SMPF (shared metallic path facility) that’s where two providers share the same cable to deliver separate broadband and telephone services , from  the PSTN telephony  ‘ network ‘  and onto a different telephone system, this requires you being moved off SMPF in advance of the PSTN telephony switch off , you can’t have this arrangement once PSTN has been retired, and the replacement telephone system can’t have a different company’s broadband service on the BT telephone ‘line’ .

TBH , the other examples of this , the other companies broadband is simply removed by whoever supplies it and the BT telephony becomes a PDPL (pre digital phone line ) so after the change there is no broadband anymore just telephony…as you are with two BT Group businesses (BT and EE ) your situation may a little different in that you are being asked if you want to join BT to keep a broadband service with your BT telephone service.

If you join BT for broadband in addition to BT telephony, you will get moved off PSTN onto BT DV (Digital Voice) telephony (and not a PDPL ) and that  requires you to use the BT router as BTDV uses the BT router , if you don’t want BT broadband but do want to keep VT  telephony, you need to advise BT and your telephone only service will be a PDPL .

Re: ADSL connection EE broadband will it work after BT Digital switchover

You cannot have telephony and broadband from different suppliers going forward.

You need to choose which you wish to provide both services.

If you wish to have telephony, you will no longer be able to use your Tp Link modem/router, you will have to use either the BT smart Hub2 or the EE equivalent.

The hub will plug into your existing socket and your phone will plug into the hub. If you wish to have the phone remote from the hub, a DV adapter (which is essentially a portable phone socket) can be used in any power socket and links back to the hub via DECT.
