Regrade to broadband only
Hi I have just renewed my Fibre 1 contract (only have FTTC in my area) but ceasing my home phone so essentially a Broadband only contract renewal.
I don’t use the landline so see no point in paying for digital voice option.
They had to book an openreach engineer visit as part of the cease of home phone as it wouldn’t let them put the order through otherwise.
They were as confused as I was as to why this engineer visit was required as all I am doing is stopping the home phone and keeping the same broadband package.
Can anyone confirm why I need an engineer visit please?

Re: Regrade to broadband only
you don't need engineer to stop your home phone service but if you are in a stop/sell area then renewing your contract will result in move to FTTP if available
enter your address and post results including all the notes

Re: Regrade to broadband only
you don't have access to FTTP yet so not stop/sell exchange so don't know why engineer visit

Re: Regrade to broadband only
Thank you for your prompt reply. Just as I and the retention team thought. Odd. Guess I will have to wait and see. We are due to get FTTC between now and the end of 2026 according to the Openreach ultrafast map.

Re: Regrade to broadband only
So I got an email with the telephone number for the engineer who was due to arrive. I called and explained the situation and he said the visit is required incase you have been sent new equipment but as I was already set up and just removing my landline rather than adding he would just need to take a photo of my router connected up. After further conversation he said he won’t bother coming so didn’t. I got an email quite early just after my router re synced to say my service was set up and the order was showing as closed online. My landline continued to work until around 4pm when there was no dial tone. Router stats look the same as before as expected.
