Big Gift Giveaway SMS to my mobile?

Go to solution

I'm with BT for Full Fibre and EE for my mobile and just received a text about the Big Gift Giveaway with a link to click on.

It then takes you to what looks like a genuine BT page and asks you to log in with username, password, name and mobile number.  Then asks if I want to be notified of any wins by email or sms or both.

Wanted to check if this is genuine or not before I complete the form and  submit it.

Fake, do not provide any information, otherwise your account will be compromised.

@Hizle2

BT/EE would never send you a message with a link asking you for your account and password.

There have been plenty of these sort of things in the past, where they appear to be from a legitimate source, but turn out to be scams. All they are after is your account details, so they can take over your account.

If it was genuine, it would not have included a link, but simply a promotion code which you can then log into your account the normal way, and enter the promotion.

The one last time I think was for an iPhone.

@Muddles20  and @Hizle2

https://www.bt.com/help/security/scams

Signs of a scam text

  • The text sounds urgent or threatening
  • There are spelling or grammar mistakes
  • They ask for personal details, passwords or bank details

What to do

  • Don't click on links, reply or text back
  • If you can see the number, check whether it's genuine by searching online
  • Forward the text to 7726 so we can help
  • Then delete the text

Its also possibly to be a copycat of a genuine promotion, which does not ask for any account name or passwords.

This is the real one https://eoi.ee.co.uk/?intcam=con_ee_eng_ee_h_na_c13christmas_na_2023-12-14

This only asks for your mobile number to get a code, just as I explained before.

Be very careful.

It does not take very long for scammers to create a fake site to harvest account details, especially if people hear about these promotions, and do not think twice before entering details, thinking its genuine.

@RobbieBaron

But not the one @Muddles20 received.
