ASUS RT AX86U with Huawei HG612 slower download speeds than Smart Hub 2

I've got BT Fibre 2 (FTTC) and got myself an ASUS RT AX86U router, not realising that this router would not work with FTTC broadband alone. I was recommended a Huawei HG612 to solve my problem and it has indeed worked. However.... speeds are slower than the BT hub I was originally using. 

When using speedtest.net I usually get around 66mps download, which seems to match what I'm getting on my devices. When I use the ASUS router with the Huawei HG612, I only get around 40 -50mps tops. 

Are there settings on the HG612 that I need to change to improve this, or is it that the HG612 is just old now and I will need something more up to date?

There are no settings you can change. Different chipsets can give different speeds but surprised if the difference is that much. You really need to compare sync speeds rather than download speeds to identify the source of the problem.
