Re: BT TV Box Pro - comments/questions

Just tried a software update and the box started downloading one - now on 0.4.212

The only change I can find is that WiFi has now been enabled. Tried it here and it is working fine but seems to only work with a 5GHz connection. 2.4GHz networks are not even offered in the list. WiFi is only available after removing the Ethernet lead.

I'll hunt around for anything else but can't see anything obvious.

I notice that frame rate matching now works on Amazon Prime Video (24p content is output at 24hz not 50hz).  I presume that has happened since the update, as it was reported as not working before.   Netflix still outputs all content at 50 hz, but that has been reported as intentional (if a bit daft, and deliberately puts stutter into any 24hz content, which is most of it.)

Re: BT TV Box Pro - comments/questions

Hi All, I think I've found a bug with the pro box, nothing major but worth fixing at some point.

If you are watching a freeview channel that ends and stops transmitting the box will not show the picture for any other freeview channel without first switching to an online channel.

For example, watch CBeebies at around 7pm and it will go off air, then switch to any other freeview channel e.g. Channel 4 and the picture will not be displayed. In order to make it display you need to switch to an online channel e.g. sky sports and then back to Channel 4 in order for the picture to now appear.

I've moved from Sky a couple of weeks ago and have to say pretty impressed with the box overall, BT Sport Ultimate is decent in HDR and being able to use a firestick for mutiroom (rather than having to pay for another TV box) is a bonus.

Re: BT TV Box Pro - comments/questions

Anyone else notice that the channel logos for all BT / Now channels are not showing the channel logo on the EPG. I Have it switched on in the settings all other channels show the correct logos. Only noticed it today.

Yes! I noticed it earlier but just haven't had chance to take a look if I could get them back

I suspect that is a data issue , the logos are still in use on the BT TV App guide , it seems only the BT Tv (Youview)  that the logos are missing. Makes  understanidng the Home page quite challenging at present as you don't know what the Featured Sports channel is.

It may relate the the BDS fire on Saturday evening - things are not fully back to normal yet.

The logos not appearing on the EPG for the channels that come over the internet (BT Sport, AMC, Now TV)  still seems to be an issue since last week - any signs of a resolution?

The logos have been missing from the non pro box too, probably down to the red bee issues

It also means that recordings from these channels have no thumbnail just a kind of grey square.

Re: BT TV Box Pro - comments/questions

Darren.. I've just received my new BT TV Pro box and I'm very disappointed with the Surround Sound implementation. It's a downgrade from the my previous Youtube HD Ultra 4k box and needs a firmware update.

There are two settings, Stereo and Surround.

If I set it to Surround mode, the new Pro box does not send the same coded surround channel information my  AV system as the Youview HD Ultra 4k box did.

It works fine if the program being received is in 5.1, (eg a BBC 5.1 movie or a movie on Netflix or Prime) but if the program being received is in Stereo (eg the BBC News), my Yamaha (do-everything £2k) AV system can't generate a pseudo 5.1 sound effect which it could with my previous Youview HD Ultra 4k.

That means the sound effect in my living room is constantly switching between 5.1, and Stereo as the program changes. This is a downgrade in functionality and was not the case with my previous Youview HD Ultra 4k box.

I also have an Apple TV 4K box, so as a check, I selected a BBC iplayer stereo program and my AV system could still present the stereo program in pseudo 5.1 surround!

Clearly the BT Pro box is not sending some vital coding information within the stereo signal to allow an AV system to generate a pseudo surround effect.

I can't get past 1st line tech support staff to speak with a tech specialist with deep knowledge of the Pro box so I'd planned to send it back to get a refund and then use my old Youview HD Ultra 4k box.

Now though, having seen your post, I will hold on to it in the hope a fix will arrive soon.
