BT phone home....

Connection drops when incoming calls (phone rings) occur, even without a phone connected (just the modem with/without filter). Outgoing calls can sometimes do it. QLT is ok (some white noise) when only the phone is plugged in. Can hear lots of crackle/noise/bleeps/whirrs when modem is (un)syncing with exchange. Tried many modems and filters, no difference. Entire D-side has been pair swapped. New NTE5c socket. Socket wires pair swapped. BT66 to DP chamber pair swapped. None of it has made any difference.

Re: BT phone home....

It's always the upload sync that ends up down at 192Kb/s or under. Seen it as low as 32Kb/s. Have to keep ringing the line from a mobile regularly (several times a day) to eventually get it to sync at a normal rate, with a normal u/l SNR. It's like playing broadband keepy uppy!

Re: BT phone home....

Could be a fault on the MDF in the exchange, as that is where the phone and broadband join together. Perhaps an unsoldered connection?

There are quite a number of connections at that point, and  many older exchanges still have soldered connection blocks, and not IDC connections.

You need to request a quality check by an Openreach Frames Technician.

Upload speed will always be most affected by bad connections.

Re: BT phone home....

Thanks Keith. I have been suspecting the exchange equipment for some time. The ADSL had been moved back to OR kit some time ago but the POTS has always been on BT.

Re: BT phone home....

Will that require another OR home visit? I'm amazed and dismayed at the level of customer involvement, instead of OR fixing everything they have access to 24/7/365.

Re: BT phone home....

It needs an exchange visit. An SFI (Special Fault Investigation), if they still exist.

As this has been going on for a while now, I will ask a moderator to help.
