I have dail tone and checked that at BT level everything was fine and the bill was paid. My BT hub box just kept flashing orange light all of a sudden.... i have now switched it off for a bit and see if that helps.
Dial 17070 and make sure the number read back, matches your phone number.

May i ask what is the usual cause of sudden loss of connectivity. I have touched the box nor the cable at all!! Very annoying

It could be anything, but its worth checking your own internal connections by trying the test socket which is located on your master phone socket.
I managed to speak to BT and need to wait for a new box and engineering to come. While I am waiting, how good do you think a pay as you go dongle will be as a temporary fix for connecting a desktop to wifi? Thanks
