Why does everyone else in my Post Code of only about 10 houses are, according to the BT dashboard, able to get 20-36MB whereas it only shows 3-6MB for my address. We have FTTC which is within a few hundred metres of the house. Calls to BT's 150 this afternoon proved fruitless. Anyone any thoughts on the subject? Regards SC
Are you currently with BT? If so enter your phone number HERE and post the result, remove number before posting.
What's a BT dashboard?
Hi, Yes I've a BT landline which supports 3MB download and 0.9MB upload. The 'dashboard' is on BT's sales site where post code can be entered to determine available speeds.
The local cabinet was upgraded last year to FTTC status. Friends in adjacent post code and similar distance from it are able to get typically 10-18MB download.
As suggested details of line.

You can see from the checker you speed is about 6mb. Was that using your phone number?
which exchange and cab?
Can you try checker with neighbours phone number or address
Hi, Yes that was using my phone number. The exchange is Dursley and it's Cabinet 1. I have my immediate neighbour's number so I'll give a try.

Hi, I've checked an adjacent property which has the same exchange (Dursley) and Cabinet (cabinet 1) and this is the result:
And this is mine:
Are there any clues as to why fibre isn't available?
Regards, SC
You are too far cable distance, from the cabinet, to get a faster VDSL connection. BT seem to want to call this a "fibre" connection, which is not technically correct.
Openreach have not provided FTTP as an option at the moment, so you are stuck with VDSL or ADSL, as the speed is about the same. I see you are on ADSL at the moment.
just for interest the neighbours connection is very low compared to the dslchecker estimate
Hi Keith, I can actually see the cabinet across the valley from me and having in the past walked most of the local cable routes when the village was negotiating with Openreach to get the FTTC status so see based on the BT chart below what we in the locale might get in terms of the MBs. My cable route is approx 1km so I'd expect of the order of 20-25MB.
Any further thoughts?

Chart of BT FTTC speed against distance from the street cabinet
Unless the cable is on poles all the way from the cabinet to your home you have no idea how the cable runs or how long it actually is. Cables seldom run the shortest route .
For example I know the length of my cable from the cabinet as it is visible on poles right from the cabinet to my home
I can't see BT helping as your conenction speed is as expected from the dslchecker
