FTTP - not getting full speed. Used to get 201meg on 200/20, now only 140/30 on 160/30.

We live in a new-build property with FTTP. Most people on our estate went Virgin due to cost, therefore there is huge network capacity for us. When we first moved in, we were on a legacy package called Superfast 3, which was 200 download, 20 upload. We would get the full speed, often slightly faster, like 201/21. We then switched to a slower, cheaper package as we don't need that much bandwidth. We are on Full Fibre 100 which should be up to 160 download. Having previously got higher than the advertised speed, I am surprised that we only manage to now get 140 on a 160 package. I know it's splitting hairs, but it just doesn't make sense. Our connection is the same speed whatever time of day, always 10ms ping and 135-140 down/30 up. I've spoken to BT FTTP support a couple of times, and they can't really give me an answer. It's like our line is set to a 140 max speed profile, but support insist it should be up to 160. Anyone got any ideas? Thanks in advance.

A check of the Openreach site shows a couple of 220 download profiles on FTTP, ( no 200 Mb ones ) so perhaps you were on a 220 profile and allowing for overheads getting 200Mb , if now on the 160 profile perhaps allowing for overheads it reasonable to be getting around 140, which as it’s way in excess of what you would expect on Full Fibre 100, obviously they build in a fair margin.
It could well be 900Mb ‘product’ sold by BT is actually 1Gb but selling it at that would be bound to get complains about only getting 910-930Mb

It was definitely 200, not 220. It was Superfast Fibre 3 Plus, which is not longer available, hence why you won't find it anywhere on the Openreach wholesale tiers. My point is that, if my line will easily take faster (I could order Fibre 900 if I wanted, with a 450 guarantee), then why don't I don't get the full speed on a slower product?

You mean this Openreach price list?

As you can see it was indeed 220mbps. Openreach have never sold a 200mbps product.
